Bring Back Joie de Vivre

The parks, the culture, the sport, the joy of national life

SUM will invest in community spaces, back our athletes and creators, brand Seychelles culture to the world, build the best roads in the region, and support the animals we share the islands with.

The problem

A nation is not only its economy. It is its playgrounds and parks, its music and carnivals, its athletes and creators, the joy people take in living here. That joy has been neglected. A government that only counts money forgets what the money is for.

What SUM will do

1

Community spaces

New and renovated playgrounds, parks and district community centres, safe and well kept, for families, children and elders to gather.

2

Back athletes and creators

A national sports programme aiming at our first Olympic medal, and an Orange Economy that funds artists, filmmakers, musicians and digital creators as a real industry.

3

Brand our culture

Promote Seychellois culture and creativity to the world, as Hawaii and Bali have done, through festivals, carnivals and a national branding effort.

4

Roads and animal welfare

A long-term programme for the best roads in the region, and a national Animal Welfare Authority to end cruelty and promote humane treatment.

In practice

How it works, step by step

1

Renew the community spaces

New and renovated playgrounds, parks and district community centres, kept safe and well maintained, give families, children and elders places to gather.

2

Back athletes and creators

A national sports programme aims at our first Olympic medal, and an Orange Economy funds artists, filmmakers, musicians and digital creators as a real industry with real income.

3

Carry our culture to the world

Festivals, carnivals and a national branding effort promote Seychellois culture and creativity abroad, the way other island nations have turned identity into pride and income.

4

Fix the roads and protect the animals

A long-term programme builds toward the best roads in the region, and a national Animal Welfare Authority ends cruelty and promotes humane treatment.

What it means for you

In real life

Vibrant districts, athletes and creators who can build careers at home, a culture celebrated worldwide, roads worth driving, and a more compassionate nation. The joy of Seychellois life, restored.

A family in a district with no safe park

A renovated, well-kept community space gives their children somewhere safe to play and the neighbourhood somewhere to gather.

A young musician or filmmaker

The Orange Economy fund treats creative work as a real industry, so talent can build a career at home instead of leaving to be taken seriously.

How it is paid for

Community spaces and roads are core public works funded from the capital budget spent well rather than wasted. The Orange Economy is an investment that returns jobs, tourism and cultural export. Animal welfare and sports programmes are modest lines whose value shows in a healthier, prouder national life.

Questions

It is part of the same job. People endure hardship better and build community stronger when national life has joy in it. Neglecting it is a false economy.

What is the Orange Economy?

The creative economy: artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers and digital creators. Treated as a real industry with funding and platforms, it creates jobs and carries our culture to the world.
